Premier League Power Rankings - Gameweek 8
It's back again, Zack's Premier League Power Rankings. Heading into another international break this is how I see things.
1. Manchester United (-)
- Man United played an exciting game last weekend with Sunderland but couldn't quite get the job done. We'll keep them at #1 for another week.
2. Manchester City (-)
- City were also involved in a draw this weekend, 1-1 with Aston Villa. They looked very good against Villa and made the comeback after going down early on.
3. Arsenal (+1)
- Kind of tough not to move Arsenal over Man City with such a dominating performance but City has been very good so far so let's wait to see what happens two weekends from now.
4. Chelsea (+2)
- In my opinion Chelsea's win was never in doubt against Liverpool. I felt a calming sense that Chelsea would always come out winners and they did so well with a 2-0 victory.
5. Tottenham Hotspur (-)
- Negative: They got a draw with Bolton. Positive: They fought back twice and salvaged a point on the road. Not great but not bad either.
6. Liverpool (-2)
- I really expect to see these six not only in my power ranking Top 6 but in the real Top 6 all season long but for now Liverpool rounds them out. Couldn't muster much against a superior Chelsea.
7. Aston Villa (-)
- Can't really say Sunderland's draw with Man Utd is enough to top Villa who drew with Man City. Five draws this weekend could make things a bit boring.
8. Sunderland (-)
- Did I say boring yet? Sunderland looked pretty good in getting a draw at Old Trafford but ten teams didn't have enough to win last weekend.
9. Bolton (+2)
- I'm doing it, moving Bolton past the two teams below them even though they all drew. Bolton look GOOD right now. They controlled a lot of the game against Spurs and impressed me last week.
10. Stoke City (-1)
- Good draw at Goodison Park against Everton with the key being that it was on the road.
11. Everton (-1)
- The Toffees have right the ship since their rough start to the season but a little hiccup against Stoke City isn't a big deal.
12. Burnley (-)
- They beat Birmingham, it's not really something to ride home about but for a team like Burnley, winning home matches against other promoted teams is essential.
13. Fulham (+2)
- I'll be honest. Fulham doesn't really deserve this spot for a draw, but it seems like they have either gotten the shaft or been lucky from the results of teams around them all year.
14. Birmingham City (-1)
- Slowly slipping down the order here. A loss at Burnley isn't too good for them and they need to start finding points wherever they cn get them.
15. West Ham (+2)\
- The Hammers are in the same situation as Fulham. They don't really deserve to go up but no one else has impressed me enough for this spot.
16. Wigan (-2)
- Am I surprised? No. I kind of figured Wigan would revert back to their old form here. Really is too bad they are so off and on.
17. Hull City (+2)
- Needed their 2-1 win over Wigan badly, as they were on a really bad string of results. They've got to build on this result to turn things around.
18. Blackburn (-2)
- Shiesh. What a brutal loss against Arsenal. They showed some guts by leading twice in this one but really fell apart as the match went on. Disappointing.
19. Wolves (-1)
- Oh Wolves you are SO lucky Portsmouth have been as bad as they have. You deserve to be below them but Pompey haven't beaten any.......oh wait, they did just beat you. Ouch. At home. Ouch.
20. Portsmouth (-)
- VICTORY! Pompey finally got off the mark. I can't even imagine what a relief this is however losing every match up until their most recent doesn't quite earn them a jump in the rankings.
Bring on the comments. Let me know how I did this week.

I was all ready to bash keeping United at the top because THEY NEEDED AN OWN GOAL AT THE DEATH TO DRAW WITH SUNDERLAND AT HOME! But a cooler head prevailed because there's really no other way to list the top 4 based on your past evaluations. United beat City, safe to say Arsenal and City are even at this point, and Chelsea's win over Liverpool really isn't that impressive at Stamford Bridge with 'pool having a considerably down year so far. (Never commented last week but dropping Chelsea to 6th was a bit too much. I know it's a loss to Wigan but Wigan went ahead on a PK, then had a man advantage for the remainder, then scored their 3rd while Chelsea had 9 men on the field as they had no more subs left when Ashley Cole hobbled off.)

And I think you've been too generous to Birmingham. I know they sit 14th in the table but they've only managed 5 goals in 8 games.
